So furniture wise we're trying to do things as cheaply as possible. We will be building most of the wooden furniture. I will probably build the majority of it since it gives me something to do and I can handle power tools like a pro. Bet you didn't know that about me either did you?
For the kitchen Firefighter and I will be building a square table probably 4ftx4ft. Then we'll be building 4 benches that will tuck completely under the table so that they will not get in the way chairs would if you bump into them. Each bench will seat 2 people so that our entire family can fit at it. Have you ever priced a table that seats 8+ people? It's outrageous how expensive they are. Firefighter and I priced several and we just cannot afford to drop 1400-2000 on a good quality table and chairs. We're looking for a good quality wood to build it out of too. Since I'm allergic to pine it's rather hard to find one. I can build it out of pine but I have to make sure to super seal it. I'm hoping to build this sooner than later. Then we'll be selling our cute little nook. I hate to let it go but we just don't have the space for it.
For the boys' bedroom we're building a triple bunk for the older boys. This is what it will look like. Photo taken from this site.

When Blond Terror gets a little older we think we'll add another bed to the bottom shooting out under the middle bunk. The boys want theirs painted. We'll see what I decide to do when we get to that point. We'll be embarking on that adventure either next week or the week following that.
Prissy Pants room will have a loft bed go where the closets are. We're building that one too. We'll probably be building hers after the boys. For several reasons too. Her room is going to be more labor intensive. Under her loft bed against the wall with the window we'll put her dresser. On the opposite wall we'll be running a bar so she can hang her clothes up if she so chooses. Then I'm hoping to build her a little vanity in there too. She so deserves to have the girliest room after having had to share a room with her brothers for so long.
As for Firefighter and my room we'll be building a pedestal bed. Super simple. I just love the look of one and getting box springs up there is going to be nearly impossible.
As for the cheap furniture for the family room we're going the route of craigslist. We're currently searching for a sleeper sofa in decent condition of any color. I'm going to recover it in a color that I like and will flow with what I have going on downstairs. I'm also looking for a papasan chair. I've always wanted one. If I can't find one that I like I'll buy a cheap one and take the cushion and cover it and use it for a floor cushion for the boys room and then buy a new one at Pier 1. I'm all about being frugal in this. We're also searching for a nice recliner, or another papasan chair, for our living room. We've got the extra room to where we can add it. I know Firefighter would love having a chair all to himself. That particular chair may wait though since I know he wants a leather chair or leather like chair. My only request is that it's brown and not black.
I'll also probably be stripping down our current end tables and coffee table and painting or staining them more of a brown. Currently they're black and they're showing lots of wear along the sides.

I think that is about it. Notice I say think. I know in time this will all pull together. Firefighter keeps telling me we should go into business together. Him doing the hard labor and me doing the interior design parts. He's so funny.
Anywho keep your eyes peeled for another post tonight with photo updates on the house and such since we'll be going that way tonight when he gets home.

I luv the triple bunks! We currently have 3 boys in 1 room standard bunks and a custom bed (a little shorter than a single but a little longer than a toddler bed). Our 2 yr old is in a toddler bed in our room but I would luv to get him in with the other boys so that triple bunk looks ideal. However, we procrastinate. We are great at saving the money and buying materials but we never seem to get the job done. My excuse is usually our 5 kids but you guys just get in and do it. I am enjoying following your journey of turning this house into your home. Keep up the good work :-)
