I got a bunch of stuff done today. I did bring my camera. My memory card on the other hand was still in my card reader at home. Even if I had my memory card I forgot my camera at the other house. Yeah I'm having a day.
Today I finished touching up the paint in the new living room. I bought a border for it yesterday. I returned it today. I didn't love it. I want something that I love since I'm going to be seeing it every day.
I figured out this nifty way to deal with the old old old sheet rock under the wall paper. Textured paint. You know the stuff they put on ceilings? It is fun to put up too!
I removed the creepy cat border from the kitchen and replaced it with a super cute fruit signs border. We're planning on replacing the floor and the hardware on the cabinets. The kitchen has this funky Formica counter top that I adore.
I primed the entire boys' room. I have the border for that room and the two paint colors. I should hopefully have that done on Wednesday.
I cleaned the kitchen and bathroom. By clean I mean clean. I vacuumed the floors and cleaned up my random messes through the house.
Now to the fun part of the blog. We are renting this house from Aunt T's dad/gma. We've been given free reign in the decorating sense. It needed to be updated out of the 70s. I know that all of the repairs that had been done had been done on a small budget. I am in no way belittling the previous owner or his work on the house. I'm just ranting because now however many years later I'm dealing with it. So enjoy the rant and maybe get a giggle out of it.
What not to do when remodeling/repairing/redecorating
Do not fill holes in the ancient sheet rock with concrete.
Do not fill holes with concrete on top of 2 layers of wallpaper.
Do not put a layer of wallpaper on top of 3 other layers of wallpaper.
Do not put wallpaper on the ceiling.
Do not rip wall paper off the ceiling and not get it all off then cover it with another layer.
Do not use paneling. Please for the love of all things holy do not use paneling. Please leave it in the 70s where it belongs. There are so many more awesome options out there.
Paneling does not work as a floor. You need something stronger. I promise.
Do not put drop ceilings over a beautiful plaster ceiling.
Do not put creepy cat border in the kitchen. Really is the kitchen a place for cats?
Do not put a funky southwestern border under the cabinets in the same kitchen. They do not match.
When deciding to put a stronger floor in the kitchen do not hire in your inadequate grandchildren to do the job. It will not be flat. It will not be square.
Avocado green linoleum should never be used. I have nothing against the color. In fact I love that color. It just should never be floors.
Please remember kids wallpaper is never the answer ;)
I'm off to bed. I have to actually pack tomorrow. Especially since I haven't done hardly any packing....
ETA: I don't know if it's just our Lowes or all Lowes but they're taking out our wallpaper/border section, or so it seemed, and they had all their borders for $1 a roll. Wallpaper was only $3 a roll but remember it's never the answer ;)
