After not participating in what feels like an eternity

Can you see Blond Terror's worry?
This was a demonstration controlled propane burn on a local university's fire campus.
So this is the prelude to my kitchen post. It gives you a sneak peek into it too. Up until this past Saturday this is the table we had been using. Cute and functional but not nearly big enough for our family. We bought this nook right before Blond Terror was born. It had a bench that went with it but it didn't survive the move. We've been using 2 chairs there instead. The nook is up for sale on craigslist now.

We scored this table at a yard sale. I thought we bought it for $10 but we got it for $15. There was a miscommunication between Firefighter and myself. Either way it was a great deal. We went out with a $15 budget on a new table during P-town's town wide yard sale. We had already begun sanding the top when I had a duh moment and went and grabbed my camera.

I restained the top a darker color and painted the legs an orangy/peach color that I had bought to match the border in the kitchen.

Then we had to figure out what we were going to do for chairs since it didn't come with any. I decided that benches would be a great idea down the sides and use 2 chairs we already have. The chairs had to be restained to match the table top and benches. I picked up an 8ft long pressed pine board at Menards for approximately $14. I cut it in half and stained them for the bench tops.

I used 2x6 scraps that we had from other projects to support the bench a little better and to be used to attach the legs to the bench without having to screw through the top.

For the legs I used scrap 2x4s in the garage along with 4 leftover spindles from the deck. I apparently forgot to photograph this part.

Here is the finished product in my kitchen. We ate at it last night with our entire family present and there was no elbowing or arguing that so and so was too close. It was a little weird sitting so far away from Firefighter but that is ok.
Did I mention that the only thing Firefighter helped me do was sand it? I did everything else by myself :).
I'm not sure which it should be called. It's only a 4'x8'. We do love it a lot. We made a few modifications to the original plan. The stair rails still need to be put on but for now it's ok without them.
When Firefighter started on it on Friday he only intended to set the poles. He ended up working on it until it was too dark to work on it anymore. By the end of day one he had the posts set, it framed, and the joists hung.

ok so the 2nd to last one I was totally taking a picture of his butt. In the last one he turned around and caught me so I had to take one of the post.
Day two was rather uneventful. The deck boards, railing, and stairs went on. The corners of it was my idea. I think it looks great. Firefighter did manage to put a nail through his level. I found it rather amusing. He may tell you otherwise but I helped an awful lot on this. It's not like he could do it without me. He will tell you that I cut a board wrong twice. What was really wrong was his measurements. He won't admit to that though.

Just to finish it up is a dirty faced Blond Terror cheesing it up for the camera. This face absolutely cracks me up.
I can't believe it. It's hard to believe that much time has already passed.
For her birthday we took to her the pool a few towns over. Aunt N, Miss B, and her Daughters A and P came with us to the pool. We went there once last summer and fell in love with it. I can honestly say that I didn't get many photos while we were there. I got a few but not tons.

Then we came back home and cooked out. Mom, Dad #2, my brother, his girlfriend, G-ma, and Aunt N were all there along with our big crew. She opened her presents. Then we ate followed by cake.
She knew she was getting a new bike. She didn't know what kind or which one. She knew we'd already gotten it too. She searched the garage and even the house for the new bike. We hid it in the shed that we don't use, and haven't cleaned out yet.

Her cake was a chocolate flip flop cake. It turned out pretty good if I do say so myself.

yup I totally suck and never updated. I will tell you though that I didn't get my new card reader until Thursday. Then we've been putting up the back porch and I've been working on my table. We just got done with everything. Now I'm baking Prissy Pants' birthday cake. She will be 9 tomorrow. I cannot believe the time has passed so quickly.
On to the trip. The kids had a blast in the pool despite the fact that the pump blew a gasket thingy and had to be fixed. The pool just didn't want to clear up.

Blond Terror never went down the slide by himself. In fact he never left the 2nd step if he was going down them. He'd occasionally back into the pool hold the side and kick then pull himself out. That was until he fell in head first, butt bobbed up first then he came back up. All the while I was falling off the step to get to him. It was a mess.
Prissy Pants and Super Hero had a blast. Super Hero's little lips turned blue. He just wouldn't get out even though he was shivering.

My mom, dad #2, and my uncle leaving for a ride.

The following Friday night we went out to the state's fire college grounds at our state's university. Firefighter took a class there last year and didn't this year because he'd gone to the Jaws of Life class. We watched them do an extrication on a dummy, a flash over, and then a HUGE propane burn. It was cool to see and for the kids to see too.

Sometime later this week I will update with Prissy Pants' birthday photos and such. We're going to the pool then coming home for a cookout.
I have been a totally sucky blogger in the last few months. I have 5 kids, a husband, a house in mid remodel, and some really interesting personal stuff going on.
In April we went to his mom's house. I had a great photo shoot. It's on my photography blog. Well part of it is. The other stuff is on my old computer. I just haven't done anything with them.
The first weekend in May Firefighter had Jaws of Life Training in Wisconsin. Here is a link for it, 5 Alarm. He's on it. I'm too lazy to figure out and tell you just where. I was supposed to go with him but had surgery the day before he left so I didn't. Super Hero and I had a fabulous date just me and him that Saturday. I turned 26 on the 4th, Monday. Firefighter brought me flowers home that morning, picture on the old computer. He and the kids bought me this set. I found it while SuperHero and I were window shopping in a game store. It hadn't even hit the market when I saw it. We cooked out that night. Aunt N, Uncle B, and Cousin I came over and joined us. My mom made me a honey bun cake. That thing is so sinfully delicious!
The following Friday we were surprised by the birth of a puppy. A single puppy, which would be why they thought his mama was having a chemical pregnancy. He's a chunky pup. You can tell he's an only child. Blond Terror says it's his pup. He's going to be heartbroken when he leaves our home.
We went to his mom's house again and Blond Terror experienced a beach for the first time. It was at a nearby lake.

Memorial day weekend we went to Kentucky, enter flowers. These were all from around my Mamaw's yard. I had a 20x20 canvas made of the rose photo to hang on my bedroom wall above my dresser. I'll take pictures of it hanging in there tomorrow and upload them too.

Tomorrow I will blog about the rest of that trip. I have at least 5 blogs worth of stuff once I get the reader.

to be continued....
I took a bunch of photos of my kitchen and my new to me table that we're making ours along with the progress of our new deck. I went to go put my compact flash card into my card reader and der I tried to put it in upside down. I bent the prongs and I can't use it anymore. So tomorrow I will probably be buying a new card reader since I can't find my program disk for my camera to load the camera software onto my laptop. Yup I'm awesome right? I do however have some pretty flower photos that I'm going to upload tonight after I go pull clothes off the line that I forgot about.
