I know I haven't posted in forever. I have tons of photos to post and stories to tell. Now I just need the time to do it. Life has a way of using it all up before you know it. I am making a point this week to post at least one long update type post with at least 2 birthdays, first days of school, a trip to Georgia, and a few other random things.
On another note I shot a wedding yesterday! My friend Fiona(not her real name) helped me out. It was her first wedding. There is one sneak peek over on the photography blog and there will be a few more over the next 2 weeks.
I thought I took several pictures of the before of the kitchen but I can't seem to find them but I did find this post where you can see some of it. We moved the fridge to a better position to where we were able to have more room in the kitchen. Firefighter laid my new floor down in March while I was gone for a week in Kentucky. I found the tiles at Lowes on clearance plus I had a 10% off coupon. The entire floor cost a whopping $42 and some change. So the actual decor changes that I have made to this room not counting the table it has cost me about $45. Sweet huh? We still haven't gotten the cabinets moved up or the ugly southwestern border off. That will probably come this fall as the weather gets cooler.
Now without any further ado.

I totally could've gotten these up sooner but didn't. Been busy to say the least. I had two of my photos published in 2 local papers on the front page! Awesome right?
The first ones we attended were in P-town. It rained ALL day on the 4th. It let up around 7pm and we went out and watched them overcast and cloudy and all.

Then on the 5th we went down to the 'Toulbox and watched their fireworks. It was the most gorgeous night!

Can you see Blond Terror's worry?
This was a demonstration controlled propane burn on a local university's fire campus.
So this is the prelude to my kitchen post. It gives you a sneak peek into it too. Up until this past Saturday this is the table we had been using. Cute and functional but not nearly big enough for our family. We bought this nook right before Blond Terror was born. It had a bench that went with it but it didn't survive the move. We've been using 2 chairs there instead. The nook is up for sale on craigslist now.

We scored this table at a yard sale. I thought we bought it for $10 but we got it for $15. There was a miscommunication between Firefighter and myself. Either way it was a great deal. We went out with a $15 budget on a new table during P-town's town wide yard sale. We had already begun sanding the top when I had a duh moment and went and grabbed my camera.

I restained the top a darker color and painted the legs an orangy/peach color that I had bought to match the border in the kitchen.

Then we had to figure out what we were going to do for chairs since it didn't come with any. I decided that benches would be a great idea down the sides and use 2 chairs we already have. The chairs had to be restained to match the table top and benches. I picked up an 8ft long pressed pine board at Menards for approximately $14. I cut it in half and stained them for the bench tops.

I used 2x6 scraps that we had from other projects to support the bench a little better and to be used to attach the legs to the bench without having to screw through the top.

For the legs I used scrap 2x4s in the garage along with 4 leftover spindles from the deck. I apparently forgot to photograph this part.

Here is the finished product in my kitchen. We ate at it last night with our entire family present and there was no elbowing or arguing that so and so was too close. It was a little weird sitting so far away from Firefighter but that is ok.
Did I mention that the only thing Firefighter helped me do was sand it? I did everything else by myself :).
I'm not sure which it should be called. It's only a 4'x8'. We do love it a lot. We made a few modifications to the original plan. The stair rails still need to be put on but for now it's ok without them.
When Firefighter started on it on Friday he only intended to set the poles. He ended up working on it until it was too dark to work on it anymore. By the end of day one he had the posts set, it framed, and the joists hung.

ok so the 2nd to last one I was totally taking a picture of his butt. In the last one he turned around and caught me so I had to take one of the post.
Day two was rather uneventful. The deck boards, railing, and stairs went on. The corners of it was my idea. I think it looks great. Firefighter did manage to put a nail through his level. I found it rather amusing. He may tell you otherwise but I helped an awful lot on this. It's not like he could do it without me. He will tell you that I cut a board wrong twice. What was really wrong was his measurements. He won't admit to that though.

Just to finish it up is a dirty faced Blond Terror cheesing it up for the camera. This face absolutely cracks me up.
